In the Gothic Quarter since 1834
Santa Clara opened on Carrer de la Llibreteria in 1834, just off Plaça de Sant Jaume, between the City Hall and the Palau de la Generalitat. Its sign still says it plainly: bomboneria, pastisseria, degustació — sweets, pastries, and a place to taste them.
About fifty years ago the shop passed to the Gil-Ribes family, who ran it for three generations. When Núria Pagés retired, the business went to new hands, with a promise to keep its legacy and its old-neighbourhood character alive.
And so it goes on: the window full of pastries, the chalkboards with the prices, and the tables for a coffee. Some families have bought their Easter mona here year after year.
